After a successful first month across the road for our off-site programme Pictureville Presents: Cinema at The Studio, we’re thrilled to announce our March programme. It’s been a terrific start with lots of friendly faces old and new, and we’re excited to welcome more of you for this wonderful bunch of films. Keep scrolling for what’s coming up, with everything from Romeo + Juliet to Bend it Like Beckham.

We’re celebrating Women’s History Month in style with a season of Triple F-Rated films. That means the film is written and directed by a woman and focuses heavily on female characters. The stories we see on screen need to be told by a broad spectrum of people to represent our diverse culture, and modern classics like Lady Bird, A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night and Petite Maman show how female auteurs from across the globe are shaping contemporary cinema.

Your Fat Friend

With recent releases like How to Have Sex, Past Lives, and Your Fat Friend, we’re also excited to showcase some of the most exciting emerging talents of the past few years. From daring drama to insightful documentaries, these films send a clear message that women can and should have more than just a supporting role in the film industry.

Past Lives

Shakespeare on Screen

It’s Shakespeare Week from 21 March, and we’re leaning into our theatrical surroundings at The Studio for a season of the best adaptions of the Bard’s work. Set everywhere from 1593 London to feudal Japan to a Seattle high school, this collection of acclaimed films shows how timeless the stories by the world’s most renowned playwright are.

Romeo + Juliet

Alongside beloved films like Romeo + Juliet, Shakespeare in Love, and 10 Things I Hate About You, our season of Shakespeare adaptations will feature the return of our much-missed screenings of National Theatre Live. On 22 and 28 March we will be showing the brand-new production The Motive and the Cue, a fierce and funny play from Sam Mendes about Richard Burton’s rehearsals for an experimental new production of Hamlet.

10 Things I Hate About You

YGF Takeover

The Yorkshire Games Festival will return to venues across Bradford from 7–10 March, with a takeover The Studio on Saturday 9 March. The day features a Kids’ Club screening of Sonic the Hedgehog and an afternoon screening of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in the day, and an exclusive evening of all things gaming with our brand-new adults-only games social.

Grab a drink, bring some pals and play a massive range of board games and card games, and explore all things analogue gaming with the team from Dungeons & Flagons.

Festivalgoers can also experience Big Screen Gaming with exciting, weird and wonderful multiplayer games on offer, including Crawl, Heave Ho, Drink More Glurp, Lovers in a Dangerous Spacetime, Nidhogg, Ultimate Chicken Horse and more.

Bradford Queer Film Festival 2nd anniversary

You may have attended a few of our February screenings in collaboration with Bradford Queer Film Festival, and we are so excited to partner up again in March for the festival’s two-year anniversary.

Bend It Like Beckham

To celebrate this milestone, we will be screening the 2002 British classic Bend It Like Beckham, which follows a young girl who dreams of playing football despite the objections of her family.

The film will be introduced by Alice Parsons, director of Bradford Queer Film Festival, and is a must-see for fans of feel-good British cinema.

Easter Kids’ Club

Over the Easter holidays we are expanding our usual Saturday morning Kids’ Club to four whole screenings across Friday 29 and Saturday 30 March.

Come along and expect crafty activities and £3 tickets for spring screenings featuring weird and wonderful creatures in Peter Rabbit, Alice in Wonderland and Zootropolis.

We hope to see you at The Studio soon, where you can expect a warm welcome from the Pictureville team and a diverse programme in a cosy theatre space, all while supporting Bradford’s independent cinema.
